Total mined bitumen and synthetic crude oil in Alberta climbed nearly nine per cent in the first quarter of 2009 to 770,500 bbls per day from 708,400 bbls in the first quarter of last year, thanks to operational efficiencies and despite challenges that included maintenance and weather-related problems.
