HOW TO ASSESS INDIVIDUAL ANIMAL TECHNOLOGY

WITH PREMISES REGISTRATION under way at some level in at least 43 states, it's time to anticipate the next phase of a national-animal-ID pro-gram -- individual animal ID. The current plan calls for individual animal ID to begin on a voluntary basis this coming July. But the market is full of ID tools and companies. Technology ranges from iris scanning, retinal imaging, antibody fingerprinting, DNA sequencing, bar codes and radio frequency. And, many of the federal recommendations and standards are still under construction (All state guidelines must mesh with the federal program.) So, how do you choose which ID system to use?
