Geology; alteration, and mineralization of the Cerro Corona porphyry Cu-Au deposit, Cajamarca Province, Peru

The Cerro Corona Cu-Au deposit is hosted by the Cerro Corona Stock, which is divided into pre- or syn-mineralization and post-mineralization quartz diorites. These are compositionally very similar, have fine-grained crowded porphyritic textures and comprise 25 percent plagioclase and 8 percent hornblende phenocrysts in a fine-grained groundmass. ~(206)Pb/~(238)U analysis of zircon gives a Middle Miocene age (14.4 +- 0.1 Ma). The Cerro Corona Stock intruded the late Cretaceous Pariatambo silty limestones. Skarning and mineralization of the Pariatambo Formation is restricted to within 20 m of the limestone/diorite contact.
