TPM: Early management ensures quick vertical start of new plants

In mid-May 2014, Suiker Unie put a new Behn + Bates (Germany) valve bag-filling system into operation, filling bags of powdered sugar at its specialty factory in Puttershoek, the Netherlands.. Central to this launch was 'start-up monitoring' (Early Management), a pillar of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), because it allowed for a nearly vertical start-up curve for the plant. The paper suggests that, in such cases, good cooperation among all of the company's discipline areas, as well as the supplier, is required.
