A self-priming pump (Ahlstar process pump type ASP) for sugar and starch production is described which guarantees an energetically ideal, undisturbed flow of the liquid, and which at the same time evacuates free air. It is based on a integrated vacuum pump, which sucks the accumulating air from holes in a specially developed impeller for later use or disposal. Also described is a maintenance-free dynamic shaft seal.
