摘要

For the first time thermal water was successfully tapped in the eastern part of the Rhenish Massif (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) by the "Bad Laasphe 1001" well. On the basis of detailed mapping and structural interpretation of the regional geology, the aquifer in the Eifelian Quartzite of the Middle Devonian was the target of the well. This well, about 900 m deep, produces mineralized water with a temperature of 29 deg C. Besides cuttings and cores, geophysical logging of the borehole revealed important details of the geology. The mean regional geothermal gradient is estimated to be 2.4 deg C/100 m. Temperature anomalies within the well indicate inflow of thermal water not only from the Eifelian Quartzite but also from Givetian sandstones, which were encountered at ca. 820 m depth.
