Pitfalls of operating pumps at part load

When a colleague and well-respected reliability professional living in Southern California recently saw the initial draft of this article, he offered an unusual critique. He had just returned from overseas installation "A" that claimed risk need not be considered in calculating the cost of demonstrated unreliability. Both he and I believe that risk must be considered and that not doing so puts into question the entire concept of reliability engineering.
