EU energy ministers discuss 2030 framework for energy policies

The EU energy ministers recently discussed the EU's 2030 framework for climate and energy policies. The debate focused on policies to reduce GHG emissions, along with policies to develop re-newables and to increase energy efficiency for which the EU wants to set goals for 2030. The EU Commission has proposed an EU GHG reduction target for 2030 of 40% below 1990 and a binding EU-wide target for a renewable energy share of at least 27% in the gross final consumption of energy for 2030. Energy efficiency will also remain an integral part of the future EU climate and energy policy. The EU member states' positions on this are still quite far apart.
