The industry-wide trend to increase capacity of existing equipment,sometimes referred to as capacity creep or debottlenecking,usually results in higher flow rates through the system.In the heat exchangers,in particular,the new operating point may result in a flow rate that causes flow-induced vibration failures if the existing exchangers are used,or require larger,more expensive exchangers,if new ones are designed.
