The present state of the Japanese petrochemical industry and issues faced by the industry

The Japanese economy experienced growth of 2.7% in the real GDP growth rate through 2004.Domestic demand for ethylene in 2005 is set to continue on a strong footing at about the same level as last year,but conditions on the product market are likely to be buffeted by rises in the prices of crude oil and raw material naphtha,and this may well affect sales quantities.This report was presented at the APIC 2005 Conference held at Yokohama on 19-20 May,2005.
