An exaggerated blood pressure (BP) response to dynamic exercise has been shown to provide information on future incidence of hypertension,1 target-organ damage development2 and cardiovascular risk3 in normotensive individuals. Nevertheless, the associated factors and pathophysiological mechanisms of exaggerated BP response to exercise have not been completely explored. Most studies that have investigated the relationships between excessive BP response to exercise, conventional risk factors and sub-clinical vascular disease have included a small number of patients, and were of cross-sectional design.The largest one included 9073 men but evaluated only the association with carotid atherosclerosis.
