摘要

Garden Centre Association figures to the end of July 2013 show the seeds and bulbs category was 11.8 per cent down. The cold spring hit sales but there is optimism that promoting new ways of selling bulbs will help to regain lost ground in the remainder of 2013 and into 2014. Some garden centres are rethinking how they retail bulbs and looking for new display methods to sell them. Alan Murdoch, director at Devon-based Fermoys Garden Centre, says he has cut bulb orders and is buying more planted pots. He wants suppliers to do more bulbs in bud, in pots, for instant colour, particularly for the younger generation. Murdoch says he still has traditional gardener customers who plant in autumn but also young families who want instant colour in containers.
