Effect of Fruit Setting Numbers in Staking Cultivation by Rope on Growth, Fruit Quality, and Yield of Oriental Melon

This experiment was conducted to investigate influence of fruit setting numbers on plant growth, fruit quality, and yield of oriental melons in staking cultivation under 1-2 W type vinyl-house. The plants were set to have 6, 8, 10, and unrestricted number of fruits. Plant fresh weight, leaf numbers and area were decreased by higher fruit number at 60 days after planting. Fruit size, flesh thickness, and soluble solids were increased in lower fruit numbers, but no difference in fruit hardness. The fruits with higher fruit number tended to have malformed fruit. Marketable yield was higher in 8 and 10 than 6 and unrestricted fruit numbers.
