To decrease the occurrence of internal brown spot (IBS) and hollow heart (HH), an investigation of the N and Ca levels, planting density, and soil covering depth of processing potato (Solanum tuberosum, cv. Atlantic) was conducted. High occurrencesof IBS and HH were observed upon treatment with 150 kg N/ha. As the Ca level increased to 150 kg/ha, only 3.5% IBS occurred in the alpine area of Daekwallyung. However, there was no significant difference between the low land area of Kangnung and the control (17.3%). HH occurrence was not affected upon treatment with Ca. Less IBS and HH occurred as the spacings between plants were narrowed to 75 x 20 cm and 75 x 15 cm compared with the conventional spacing of 75 x 25 cm. The physiological disorders occurred less frequently when the soil depth covering the stem was > 10 cm.
