The delicate flowers and tender-looking foliage of the Fuchsia genus might worry plant specifiers concerned about losses in the first cold period after setting out an amenity planting scheme. The plants are deceptive, however, and there around 140 varieties suitable for permanent plantings that are considered hardy by the British Fuchsia Society (BFS), having proved their worth by surviving five consecutive winters outside in the UK.
