The shrubby, evergreen cultivars in the Brachyglottis genus are a popular choice among plant specifiers and landscape designers looking to add year-round interest to planting schemes. Their reliable performance makes them staple plants for use in retail car parks, local authority shrub plantings and park gardens. The genus has some 30 species and cultivars, most of which are almost fully hardy, Once established, they will stand up to conditions bordering on neglect, making them ideal for projects where maintenance and aftercare will be minimal. Formerly called Senecio, the genus was renamed Brachyglottis to describe the short, yellow florets that appear in summer. Many in the industry still know the plants by their original name.
