Roses continue to captivate the senses. New roses are launched every year and their popularity seems unlikely to diminish. According to this year's Horticultural Trades Association garden industry monitor figures, hardy nusery stock expenditure is 295 pound million, of which roses account for ten per cent. According to sales director David White of, Paul Chessum Roses, who is also chairman of the British Rose Growers Association, the last major development was the patio and patio standard rose, which opened up a brand new market by extending sales into the summer. It saved a rose industry faced with falling sales and growing consumer distrust of its products.
