The article presents studies of a fluid flow and particle separation in a multi-strand continuous casting tundish. Flow structure in tundish has a very substantial effect on the quality of the final product and on efficient casting conditions. Investigations are performed worldwide to optimize the shape of the tundish working space by installing different flow control devices (FCD). The aim of the FCDs is to reduce the dead zones areas in the tundish and to improve the conditions for removing of the non-metallic inclusions to the covering slag layer. The results presented here include numerical simulations of the three-dimensional turbulent fluid flow in a tundish water model for steady-state casting conditions.
