Crack resistance of welded tubes in moist hydrogen sulfide medium

In the paper hydrogen induced cracking problemis presented. Sources of hydrogen and mechanism of crackingare discussed. The effect of production technology and steelpurity on hydrogen crack sensivity is described. It was shownthat only steels containing sulfur below 0,002 percentdesulfurized by calcium or lantanides by atomic ratio ACR=Ca(Re)/S >= 2 guarantee resistance on hydrogen inducedcracking HIC. In Ferrum steelworks SA laboratory stand fortesting crack sensivity in moist hydrogen sulfide medium ofwelded tubes was designed and carried out. The stand wasperformed in accordance with NACE Standard TM0384-87.Acuptance tests of tubes made from two lots of imported strips(VSZH OCEL Ko?ice, DUNAFERR Hungary) were carried out.It was found that only welded tubes from steel strips containing0,002 percent sulfur are not susceptible to hydrogen cracking.
