Mixing of steel is widely used in the ladle and tundish to homogenize chemical composition and temperature, enhance reactions rates, remove particles, etc. A mathematical model (based on equation Navier-Stokes) has been developed to analyze gas stirring and alloy mixing into steel. It was applied for industrial device. Numerical simulation methods based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques were used to investigate the fluid flow and mixing phenomena in gas-stirred liquid baths. The Residence Time Distribution (RTD) of the fluid in a tundish is analyzed to characterize of the flow, which includes the determination of the extent of mixing (plug and mixed volumes) and dead volume in six-strand tundish.
