A lot of research has gone into the field of large-area,flexible, and stretchable electronics to tap the potential ofmaking various useful devices including flexible paper-likedisplays, ID tags, and woven electrotextiles. The prevailingsilicon-based technologies are rendered inappropriate forsuch applications. In addition, a variety of emergingnano-electric systems will use these new materials andprocessing approaches in the quest for high-densitymemories or processors.
