A Radio Connected Intelligent Motor Control Board for Mobile Robotic Applications

In this paper the possibility of a standardization in the design of different wheeled mobile robots is proposed starting from an intelligent multi purpose motor control board. In the present form, such a board is able to control, with a built in controller, several types of electric motors (DC, servos, etc.) making use of measurement feedback both from analog sensors (like potentiometers) and from digital ones (like encoders). One additional important feature included in the board functions is the possibility of communicate via a radio link both for data (odometry) exchange and, more important and useful, for control parameters setting. In order to show all these features, a prototype has been built and tested, giving very satisfactory results.
