You can enjoy many tropical trees and plant subjects that would ordinarily be impossible after a few years of growth in your greenhouse, living room or on your patio. We live in the zone 5 area and cannot winter-over a lot of very desirable subjects without knowing how to keep them within bounds, We began about 15 years ago to experiment with this procedure. Drawing on our life long hobby of Bonsai, Bonkel & Saikei, we reasoned that we could allow a tree with larger leaves that would be incongruous as bonsai to grow on to a large size. Failures? Of course, lots of them, because some subjects just resent root pruning or transplanting. You win some and lose some, but the rewards are great.
