Calf rearing programs are beginning to evolve: Research focused on data collection, three-unit crates and early life nutrition

AT THE 2012 joint annual meeting of Animal and Dairy Science Societies in Phoenix, there were an unusually large number of presentations regarding calves. This shifting focus seems to be in line with recent industry trends to more closely evaluate theheifer raising enterprise. Description: In the area of calves and heifers, few measurements are being taken. This lack of data led to a University of Arizona study measuring calf birth weights with both a spring scale and hooftape. Measurements were taken on three Arizona dairies.
