摘要

GOOD times come and go, but during each cycle U.S. dairy producers keep cranking out more milk per herd. Production per cow, cows per herd and the number of farms still in business get most of the attention both inside and outside of the industry. Butnothing reflects how producers respond to challenge and opportunity each year like total pounds of milk produced per year does. Here's what we mean: In 1992, average total milk production per herd in the U.S. was 1.15 million pounds. In 2011, average total production was 3.81 million pounds. That's a boost of 231 percent, meaning average total output per herd more than tripled in just 20 years.
