A place for the Hereford in the President's heart

Robert Shaw can readily bring to mind the days when he refused to have a Hereford on the farm.Arguing that the extra enterprise would detract from the main arable and dairy businesses he ran with his father and brother, he put his foot firmly down, closed his mind to the possibility and concentrated on producing cereals and milk. Today, the picture at the 510 acre Hallwood Farm on the Wirral in Cheshire, could scarcely be more different. Herefords not only account for around 25 percent of the business, they are also considered to be a 'permanent fixture that will never leave the farm', and will never be surpassed by any other breed. Meanwhile, Robert himself is a self-confessed breed devotee, has earned a reputation throughout the UK as a respectedbreeder and judge, and has become well-known to most in the industry as he completes his year as Society President.
