Judges reject Sellafield's 'unfair' fine appeal

The Court of Appeal has dismissed efforts by Sellafield and Network Rail to have their sentences quashed for two separate incidents. Both companies appealed against the fines as "manifestly excessive". Network Rail's case related to a ?500,000 fine imposed in June 2013 over a collision at an unmanned level crossing where a child was seriously injured. Sellafield appealed against a ?700,000 fine from February 2013 for seven offences after management failures saw bags of radioactive waste sent to a landfill site.
