What led you to a health and safety career? My early career was in quality control in the manufacturing sector. With the introduc-, tion of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (CoSHH) in 1989, the organisation decided it needed someone to deal with all aspects of health and safety to ensure compliance and act as sole contact with the HSE and other authorising bodies. My background in dealing with quality systems, procedures and auditing placed me in a prominent position to take on this new role in health and safety. What qualifications do you have? Many, including an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA), National Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health, NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health and Safety Practice, and qualifications in environmental auditing and quality assurance management.
