摘要

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust has been fined 180,000 pounds after an HSE inspector sustained third degree burns to his hip and buttock when the warming mattress he was lying on during surgery overheated. Mike Wilcock, head of operations for the regulator's south east region, was undergoing routine surgery to remove a kidney cyst at Maidstone Hospital on 25 September 2012. He was placed on the warming mattress - known as a hot dog - which is designed to keep patients warm during surgery and can reach temperatures of 50°C within an hour.
