A waste management company has been ordered to pay 265,000 pounds after a groundsman was killed when a JCB loading shovel hit him while he was clearing litter at a Watford waste transfer station. Patrick Murphy was hit in a manoeuvring yard, known as the apron, at FCC Waste Services (UK)'s Waterdale Waste Transfer Station in August 2012. "What the company had in place was a policy that people shouldn't be walking on the apron between 10am and 2pm, which was what they thought was the busiest time," said Barker. "But they shouldn't have had anybody there at any time."
