Scrapyard poisoned employees with uncontrolled lead exposure

A scrap metal firm has been fined 30,000 pounds after an employee was found to have more than seven times the normal amount of lead in his body. The 48-year-old worker needed hospital treatment for lead poisoning. Several other employees, including the son of one of the company directors, were also exposed to harmful lead levels. Frank Barnes (Darwen) was contracted by a lead battery manufacturer to dismantle machinery at its factory in Over Hulton, Bolton, in 2009.
