If you invite people onto your premises, it is important to take steps to make it safe. However, take care that you do not create more of a hazard, eg creating black ice which a customer may not see. As long as this is done in a sensible manner, then this should not be a problem. Legally, the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations state that traffic routes should be free from anything that may cause a person to slip, trip or fall. The accompanying ACoP requires that arrangements be made to minimise risks from snow and ice and this may involve gritting, snow clearing and closure of some routes, particularly outside stairs, ladders and walkways on roofs.
