SUB-ELEMENT C9.1 of the NE-BOSH National Diploma syllabus requires candidates to be able to identify the types and causes of accidents in construction and demolition work. Though falling from heights is the largest single cause of fatalities and major injuries in the industry, the most common causes of absence are poor manual handling - while carrying heavy loads, for example - and performing repetitive tasks, which result in work-related upper limb disorders (WRULDs). Strains, sprains, fractures, lacerations and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are more and more common among builders.
