Risks in Handling Healthcare Data and a New Ethical Approach for Healthcare Organizations

Healthcare system in America has moved to handle computerized healthcare data and even though the processing became easier it has also given rise to risks never faced before. With the availability of health data to customers via his/her mobile device, we're seeing Protected Health Information (PHI) data flowing through multiple layers before reaching the customer. This dynamic further increases risks and compliance has to be ensured at every level. According to studies, 60% of PHI data thefts are initiated by insiders due to improper/careless handling or accessing data with malicious intent. This paper will focus on the computational methodologies and approaches needed to ensure compliance and minimize the risks in handling Healthcare data.
