THE EMPLOYERS' liability (EL) insurance market is currently in a "soft" phase and the consensus is that there are deals to be done as insurers compete for the best business. But what-if anything-can a business do to improve its risk profile and reduce its premium? Gary Booton, director of health, safety and environment at the manufacturers' organisation EEF, says the soft market does mean there are more competitive premiums available if brokers are doing their jobs properly. Many firms are seeing no annual increase, or even savings. But how this plays out is dependent on organisation size. "The bigger you are, the more sway you have in the market; and this is always the case," he says.
