MORE PEOPLE TAKE TIME OFF WORK with an occupational illness that once nobody talked about -- stress. Yet the UK has one of the worst records in Europe for getting employees back to work after long-term illness. Over 560 000 wokers were found to be on the sick-list because of work-related stress in a survey published last year by the Health And Safety Executive, and 5 million people in the UK said they took their stress home with them after work. In finding a solution to stress at work, the HSE has published a new research report giving practical steps employers can put in place to help employees return to work after a long absence and prevent a recurrence of the problem.
