Health and Safety Commission chairman disappointed as death and injury statistics show no improvement

WORKPLACE DEATH and injury rates show no significant change according to the latest figures from the Health and Safety Commission. The 2002-03 health and safety statistics show that 226 people were killed in work-related accidents in the UK (25 fewer than 2001-02). There were also 28 426 major injuries (415 more than the previous year) and 126 004 injuries causing 3 days or more absence from work (3651 fewer). The rate of worker fatal injury is now at the same level as 3 years ago, and is around a third of that recorded in 1981.
