Alabama Court Sides with ExxonMobil; Overturns 3.5 Billion Award to State

The Alabama Supreme Court last week overturned a 3.5 billion punitive damages award against ExxonMobil, one of the largest awards ever in a royalty dispute case. In 2003, a jury found that ExxonMobil committed fraud in the calculation of royalties it paid the state on production from its Mobile Bay natural gas wells.
