Sunoco has often said that having three Northeast refineries in close proximity give the company an advantage in terms of scheduling maintenance and construction. That was the case in the third quarter, when the refiner/marketer was able to make an opportunistic decision to advance scheduled maintenance on a poorly functioning crude unit at the Philadelphia refinery, a significant accomplishment in today's tight labor environment.
