Management approach protects data

Exciting new standards such as downhole sensors, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and wireless networks that rapidly send data to be analyzed faster also create much more complex and demanding security requirements on information technology (IT) organizations. To complicate the matter even more, IT budgets are not increasing near the rate of new demands placed on them. Today, nothing short of real-time information is acceptable. This challenge must be met with a new approach to managing and delivering technology services within the enterprise. Historically, management had to make the difficult decision to either in-source or out-source IT. As exploration and production (E&P) companies find there's more than one way to keep their systems up and running with mainstream (or leading-edge) technology, significant changes are occurring in the traditional approach to managing daily operations within corporate IT. Selective outsourcing has become a more practical solution than the "all or nothing" approach to outsourcing.
