The handling and compression of acid gas and sour gas presents diverse challenges to companies that specialize in packaging equipment designed for this purpose. Specialty projects often are requested that requite skid-mounted compression equipment designed for sour gas, acid gas or landfill gas operations. In general, gas applications with any amount of hydrogen sulfide (H{sub}2S) and/or carbon dioxide (CO{sub}2) requite several major design considerations. Although there is some mention of different types of compression, the main theme throughout this article will be reciprocating compressor applications and the associated issues.
