While many oil companies shied away from Southeast Asia and the Far East during its economic woes of the past 2 years, some have been bold enough to turn this to their advantage and earn respect in the meantime. Unocal is a case in point, turning its activities in the region into a niche area of upstream business for the company from which it is likely to reap the rewards for some considerable time.
