The same underlying processes that cause these visible signs of aging are also doing their damage inside your body, leading to arthritis, atherosclerosis, diminished eyesight and other signs of old age. Unfortunately, many older people have at least one, and some have several, of these and other chronic conditions. In fact, degenerative diseases are synonymous with the aging body. In 1996, over 36% of older Americans (those over 65) reported that their chronic conditions were severe enough to limit their daily activities.
