Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a facial pain disorder described by the International Classification of Headache Disorders-beta (ICHD-3 beta) as unilateral pain characterized by brief electric shock-like sensations, limited to one or more divisions of the trigeminal nerve. The pain may last for several seconds to 2 minutes, and is often provoked by innocuous stimuli to the affected side of the face, such as brushing the teeth, talking, shaving, or tactile stimuli.
