A Simplified Approach to Voltage Sensitivity Analysis in Radial LV and MV Distribution Networks

The paper presents a study on the assessment of node voltage sensitivity in distribution networks with respect to variations of node active and reactive powers. The framework of the proposed study is the research of new solutions for innovative management of "active" distribution networks in order to implement real time control of power fluxes in presence of distributed generation (DG). A simple analytical tool will be developed to link node voltages to node powers through network electrical parameters. This allows to define and calculate voltage sensitivity coefficients for node voltages and then to quantify voltage variations due to injections of active and reactive powers at any network node. The analytical expressions obtained are useful to be integrated into ad hoc optimisation tools in order to appropriately manage node powers, e.g. for automatic voltage regulation procedures or for DG installation planning in distribution networks. Unitary voltage sensitivity coefficients of typical LV and MV distribution networks are calculated with reference to different sections and conductors type (underground cable and overhead lines).
