A California-based provider of syringe pumps wanted to manufacture a fail-safe pmp that would run 24/7 and avoid breaking or leakages. Collaborating with a seal manufacturer led to the creation of a self-lubricating polymer seal that allows precision dosing of liquids and helps reduce downtime. Syringes used in life sciences and the field of biotechnology not only have to be precise and reliable but they also have to be long-lived and resilient in order to maintain automated instruments that are used for in vitro testing, chemical analysis and cytometry - the examination of microscopic particles contained in cells.
