It is often said that the bigger the project the bigger the potential energy savings. This is true for the Datan power plant, the largest of its kind in north Taiwan. Part of the reason for its success is the use of 12 sets of highly efficient, corrosion-resistant, low maintenance centrifugal water pumps giving an efficiency of 89%. The plans for the largest power plant in north Taiwan, the Datan power plant, included six gas-fired combined cycle generators. After a series of evaluations, San Tai machinery manufacturing company, which has more than 80 years of pump manufacturing experience, was awarded the contract for the circulation water pump (CWP) project. The project began on April 19, 2004. The six gas-fired combined cycle generating units required a total of 12 sets of CWP which were provided by San Tai. The specification were as followed φ2200 mm bore, 10 cm capacity, 22 m head, 89% efficiency, 19.3 m pump height, 360 rpm speeds and 4000 hp. Made from SUS316L stainless steel, the materials for the pump were of high corrosion resistance.
