Zinc benefits feet and carcass quality

Organic zinc improves carcass quality and reduces pododermatitis in broilers, according to Brazilian and US poultry researchers. They also support the use of proteins of animal origin since vegetable proteins seem to increase the incidence of skin lesions. Trace minerals are required for the normal functioning of all biochemical processes in the animal body. However, the trace mineral requirements of poultry are not well defined, said Dr. Thim Cheng of Zinpro Research and Nutrition at his company's European Poultry Seminar on "Poultry Performance and Carcass Quality" held in the Netherlands. He stated that the ever-increasing poultry potential, environmental issues and animal welfare concerns have caused the industry to reconsider how to efficientlymaximise productivity while minimising the undesirable impacts on the environment and on the animals. Independent and company research studies have shown that one way to attain the industry goals for trace mineral usage is through the use of performance minerals.
