摘要

A multi-disciplinary research group at the University of Campinas has presented a new plan to the Brazilian government to help monitor Al-infected species entering the country. Their main preoccupation is the southern migratory route. The mention of Brazil as a major player in the global poultry scenario is no longer a surprise. After all, the country not only holds third place among the world's largest producers, but also climbed to first position among the exporting countries in 2004, displacing USA from the post. Furthermore, the sector showed impressive growth rates over the last 30 years. So, it should also come as no surprise that the avian influenza (AI) risk is a major concern of government, producers and research bodies. In fact, this seems completely logical given the country's figures, and the fact that the sector answers for 1.5% of the country's GDP and 800,000 direct job posts.
