Historical Preview of the Recreational Parks and Botanical Gardens of Athens, Greece

摘要

This paper aims to make a historical and landscape architectural preview of the recreational parks and botanical gardens of 19th century in Athens. The Royal Garden, known today as National Garden, the Haseki's Farm and Heptalophos land are Queen's Amalia main projects, through which she tried to contribute to the development of liberated Greece. Amalia, the first Queen of Greece cooperated with architects, botanologists and gardeners and followed certain principles and European movements like the German Romantic Historism for their formulation. Zappeion Gardens are a miniature version of French style parks. The benefactors E. and K. Zappas contributed to the construction of Zappeion Hall and Zappeion Gardens which bring out the beauty of the historical landscape of Ilissos riverside area.
